I know these are found in Michigan. But ive never rock hunted anywhere but Oregon, Washington, California and Idaho. Haven't cut mine open yet but the outside looks the same. It was in a creek bed that dried up eons ago. I was looking for petrified wood. The area didn't appear to have anyone living close by or previously. I dont know. I happy to have one regardless!

There is almost a brownish face in the large one.

These mass death assemblages are caused by a mudflow covering part of the reef! They’re pretty common as storm/ hurricane deposits in shallow reef ecosystems ! (Also you’d love looking at turtilla agates, they’re agatized fossil soup!!)

Yup, took eons to form and 20 minutes to disintegrate. But I love it! Very nice experiment. Let's face it: We all wonder what it would look like if we cut the stone in a different spot. Now we have a better idea.
